With three television interviews under her belt, there is much concern about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s ability to understand, much less help resolve, America’s dire economic situation.

She has made it incredibly difficult to teach economics and remain unbiased. I've had some students talk about how great they think she is and I've had an extremely difficult time reinforcing her 'strong points'…With McCain, Obama, and Biden, it is easy to tell the students where their strengths lie as well as their weaker points. When discussing them, I can at least present a balanced viewpoint from each side so that I can let the students decide for themselves this coming November. I haven't been able to see any of her real contributions to the GOP ticket. Palin has an extreme amount of pressure to perform at the upcoming VP debate – she will be unedited in the spotlight with everyone tearing apart everything she says…I'll be very surprised if her performance helps their ticket in the polls…

@Mr. D. My sentiments exactly. Try discussing these issues with a class full of European students. It is hard to get them to take the American elections seriously at all with Palin running for the second highest office in the US, and putting her near the highest of echelons of global power. Her public gaffs in every interview she's done and her inability to grasp the basic issues behind our financial crisis are a bit embarrassing for me as an American teacher whose brightest high school students could probably explain better how the proposed bailout will "shore up" the US economy than Palin does above!

That said, we're all looking very forward to Thursday night's debate! It is even worth staying up till 2:30 in the morning for here in Europe.
